What is WatchLadder?
WatchLadder is a standards organization that sets the benchmark for quality, transparency, and professionalism in the grey market watch industry. We certify dealers who meet our rigorous inspection, servicing, and documentation protocols—so you can buy with complete confidence.
What documentation will I receive when I buy a watch?
When you purchase a watch from a WatchLadder-approved dealer, you will receive the following:
• Arrival Inspection Report
A detailed record of the watch’s condition when it was first acquired by the dealer.
• Pre-Sale Inspection Report
A final assessment completed after all servicing and before the watch is offered for sale.
• Signed Invoice
An official record of your purchase, including the watch details, sale price, dealer name, and your name and address.
• Provenance Form (in-person sales only)
A document confirming the watch’s ownership history and estimated value at the time of sale.
Why do I need all these documents?
These documents provide full traceability and transparency. They prove that:
• Your watch has been professionally inspected and serviced.
• The watch’s condition has been clearly recorded.
• Ownership history has been disclosed where available.
• Your transaction is fully documented and legally sound.
What is the Provenance Form?
This form is included with in-person purchases and outlines:
• How many previous owners the watch has had
• The known ownership history
• An estimated valuation at the point of sale
(Note: this is not a formal appraisal for insurance purposes.)
What makes WatchLadder-approved dealers different?
WatchLadder-approved dealers follow strict inspection, repair, and customer service standards. They also provide complete documentation for every watch they sell—offering a level of transparency rarely found in the grey market.
What if I have a problem with my purchase?
Approved dealers are required to uphold high levels of customer service. If you encounter an issue, you can refer to the documentation you received and contact the dealer directly. WatchLadder can also assist with verifying whether the proper procedures were followed.
